APPSC Group 1 Preparation 2026 — Prelims Study Plan
The Group 1 Prelims asks you to carry two full papers — General Studies and General Aptitude — on one exam day. This guide shows how to split your time between them, how to climb from short warm-ups to full papers, and a week-by-week plan built around the tentative Prelims date of 24 January 2027.
Last reviewed: 2026-10-14
Start from the exam
Paper I (General Studies) and Paper II (General Aptitude) each have 120 questions in 120 minutes, with one-third of a question's marks deducted for a wrong answer. Notification No. 07/2026 lists 166 vacancies (revised from 163); applications close on 27 October 2026, and the Prelims is reported tentatively for 24 January 2027.
Where the marks are
Paper II Section A — General Mental Ability, Administrative & Psychological Abilities — carries 60 of the 240 marks, the single largest block. Every other section has 30. Andhra Pradesh topics appear in four of them: history & culture, economy, geography and current events.
- Daily: Mental Ability & aptitude — Sixty marks that reward practice, not memory. Give it an hour every day from the start.
- Daily: current events — Twenty to thirty minutes on national, international and Andhra Pradesh events.
- In rotation: the Paper I sections and Science & Technology — History & Culture, Polity, Economy, Geography and Science & Technology — one at a time, each with its Andhra Pradesh chapters.
The four-stage plan
The Group 1 series is a graded ladder of 17 stages and 7,982 questions — two stages for each of the seven sections, with Andhra Pradesh in stages of its own — that climbs the same four steps as every series on AP Groups Hub.
- 1. Micro Warm-Ups (20 questions) — 425 warm-ups, one lesson each, so a chapter is tested the day you read it.
- 2. Sectional Tests (50 questions) — 21 sectionals that close each stage on one subject.
- 3. Mini Tests (100 questions) — 10 half-length tests — one per section, plus Andhra Pradesh.
- 4. Full-Length Tests (120 questions) — 10 full-length papers (Paper I and Paper II) on the ladder, and 20 more full mocks in the Expert series, which also has 121 chapter-wise subject tests.
A week-by-week plan to the tentative date
From mid-October to 24 January 2027 is about fourteen weeks. This plan assumes the tentative date holds; if APPSC moves it, stretch or compress the middle phase.
| Weeks | Focus | Tests |
|---|
| 1 – 8 | Paper I sections and Science & Technology in rotation, with their AP chapters; Mental Ability every day | Micro warm-ups daily, a sectional at the end of each subject |
| 9 – 11 | Revision of weak chapters; current events month by month | Mini tests, one Paper I + Paper II pair each weekend |
| 12 – 14 | Exam mode: short revision of flagged topics only | Two or three full Paper I + Paper II pairs a week, previous-year papers |
A sample day (about four hours)
- 1.5 hours — Notes for the current Paper I or Science section.
- 45 minutes — Micro warm-ups on what you just read, then review the solutions.
- 1 hour — Mental Ability, administrative and psychological abilities practice.
- 30 minutes — Current events — India, the world and Andhra Pradesh.
Writing two papers in one day
- Practise in pairs — From week 9, write Paper I and Paper II on the same day with a break between, as in the exam.
- Mind the negative marking — Answer when you can eliminate options; leave a pure guess blank.
- Use the analytics — Each question sits on a four-level topic map, so every mistake points to the exact idea to revise.
Always confirm dates, vacancies, eligibility and the exam scheme in the official notification on psc.ap.gov.in, the official portal of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC). AP Groups Hub is an independent preparation platform and is not connected with APPSC.

Frequently asked questions
How should I divide time between Paper I and Paper II?
Study Paper I sections and Science & Technology in rotation, but practise Mental Ability every day — Paper II Section A alone carries 60 of the 240 marks.
Is three months enough for APPSC Group 1 Prelims?
It is enough for one full pass of both papers plus a block of full-length practice if you study every day. If the tentative 24 January 2027 date moves, extend the revision phase.
How important are Andhra Pradesh topics for Group 1?
Very. AP history & culture, economy, geography and current events appear across both papers; our Group 1 ladder gives each its own stages.
How many full-length tests should I write?
Write a Paper I + Paper II pair every weekend from week 9 and two or three pairs a week in the last three weeks, reviewing each one fully.
Can I prepare for Group 1 in Telugu?
Yes. Every Group 1 note, test and solution on AP Groups Hub is in English and Telugu; check the official notification for the medium of the exam papers.
